A Historic Journey to Africa: Strengthening Global Partnerships with Morocco and Ghana

From October 24 to November 1, 2025, the Greater Washington DC Black Chamber of Commerce (GWBCC), in partnership with Airtifae Group, proudly led a distinguished delegation of Washington, DC–based entrepreneurs and business leaders on a landmark trade mission to Casablanca, Rabat, and Accra. This historic journey marked a significant step forward in strengthening trade, investment, and cultural ties between the Washington, DC region and key African markets.

More than a series of high-level meetings, the mission served as a platform for meaningful connection, collaboration, and cultural exchange. The delegation explored opportunities in priority sectors including hospitality and tourism, information technology, professional services, fintech, health tech, and innovation—areas aligned with both regional growth and global competitiveness.

A central objective of the mission was to establish long-term institutional partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). Discussions were held with leading organizations such as the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Association of Ghana Industries, and the Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises to formalize collaboration frameworks that will promote bilateral trade, knowledge exchange, and SME engagement.

Strategic Engagement in Morocco

In Morocco, the delegation met with key government and private-sector stakeholders, including the Morocco Tourism Office, the Ministry of Investment, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Morocco. These engagements provided insight into Morocco’s national investment priorities, special economic zones, and high-growth industries such as agribusiness, mining, healthcare, and tourism.

With Morocco preparing to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, discussions also focused on hospitality infrastructure, workforce development, destination branding, and visitor experience—creating new pathways for U.S. companies to invest, train, and collaborate.

The mission also explored Morocco’s competitive advantages as a gateway to Europe and Africa, highlighting opportunities in digital transformation, strategic planning, workforce training, and public-private partnerships.

Expanding Opportunities in Ghana

In Ghana, the delegation engaged with the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Trade, and the Ghana Free Zones Authority to better understand Ghana’s export-led growth model and positioning under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Key outcomes included identifying Ghana as a strategic hub for regional operations, enhancing tourism promotion, attracting foreign direct investment, and expanding global market access for Ghanaian and U.S. SMEs. Conversations also focused on workforce training, destination development, and international marketing.

Cultural Exchange and Relationship Building

Beyond the boardrooms, the delegation experienced the rich cultural heritage, markets, and entrepreneurial ecosystems of both Morocco and Ghana. These immersive experiences deepened relationships and reinforced the shared values of innovation, resilience, and community that underpin successful global partnerships.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Washington, DC and the Embassy of Ghana in Washington, DC for their invaluable support, hospitality, and collaboration throughout this journey.

Delegation Reflections

Participants described the mission as both inspiring and transformative, expanding their global vision and highlighting the power of international engagement. As the GWBCC continues to champion economic mobility and global opportunity, this mission underscored that business growth is not limited by geography—it is driven by mindset, partnership, and purpose.

Outcomes and Next Steps

The trade mission laid the foundation for sustained collaboration through:

  • Follow-up work missions and sector-specific engagement
  • B2B and B2G matchmaking
  • Joint proposals and investment initiatives
  • Market-entry support and advisory services
  • Workforce and training partnerships
  • Continued MOU development and implementation

As the Chamber advances its global strategy, Washington, DC is being positioned as a gateway for African businesses entering the U.S. market, while creating new international pathways for local entrepreneurs to scale and compete globally.

We look forward to building on this momentum and welcoming continued participation in upcoming global initiatives.
